Please note that this is a 2-part session running over two consecutive days. Please register for both sessions.

This session focuses on the geography and history of Afghanistan, as well as the experiences of Afghans in conflict. It also addresses the services (including education and healthcare) that Afghans may be accustomed to and their expectations regarding access to these services in Afghanistan. Additionally, the session provides a brief overview of the experiences of Afghans in displacement and an introduction to the Afghanistan Relocation Assistance Policy (ARAP). This session is participatory and relies heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussions.

Afghan cultural norms, practices, family, and social life. It also explores IOM’s pre-departure support to beneficiaries, including United Kingdom Cultural Orientation (UKCO) and Cultural Adjustment. Like the previous session, this one is also participatory and relies heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussions.

This session will primarily focus on Sudan's geography, history, and current events, as well as the cultural norms of Sudanese society both within Sudan and in neighbouring countries. It will also explore the experiences of Sudanese communities in displacement, both within Sudan and abroad, including their experiences with services in these contexts. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion, therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session. 

Wednesday 8 July 2026

From 14:00 to 16:00

This session’s content will focus primarily on experiences that the Sudanese communities may face in displacement within and outside their country of origin. This session will also focus on the Sudanese community’s experiences with services both while in displacement and in their country of origin. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion, therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session.

Vietnam, a nation steeped in rich history and cultural diversity, awaits exploration. Our Vietnam Culture Orientation Session aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Vietnamese culture. The session will cover various aspects, including:

    • Vietnamese History and Core Values: Delve into the historical tapestry that defines Vietnam’s identity.
    • Social Norms and Etiquette: Understand the unwritten rules that govern interactions in Vietnamese society.
    • Communication Styles: Explore the nuances of how Vietnamese people express themselves.

This interactive session will rely heavily on participant engagement, featuring case studies and discussions. We strongly encourage all participants to have their cameras ready for an immersive experience.

Wednesday 9 September 2026

From 14:00 to 16:00

This session will focus on different aspects of Vietnamese culture exploring the topics list: 

    • Customs and Traditions: Discover the vibrant rituals and practices that shape daily life.
    • Family Dynamics and Access to Services: Learn about family structures and essential services available to Vietnamese communities.
    • Migration History and Trafficking: Uncover the complexities of migration patterns and challenges faced by Vietnamese migrants.
    • Vietnamese Diaspora in the UK: Explore the vibrant community of Vietnamese residing in the United Kingdom.

This interactive session will rely heavily on participant engagement, featuring case studies and discussions. We strongly encourage all participants to have their cameras ready for an immersive experience.

This session will cover the history and current events in Somalia, as well as Somalis’ experiences in displacement. In addition to this, the session will also discuss experiences with services that the Somalis may have had, as well as society, culture, and communication of Somali communities. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion, therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session. 

Tuesday 3 November 2026

From 14:00 to 16:30

This session’s content will cover the geography, history, and society amongst the Kurdish community spread across Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The session will discuss experiences that Kurdish communities may face in different conflicts in the different countries where they live. It will also discuss the experiences Kurds may face in displacement within and outside their countries of origin. Finally, this session will focus on the cultural norms and experiences with services that may be common in the Kurdish community across Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion; therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session.
