The Welcoming and supporting young refugees training provides an overview on needs and challenges faced by unaccompanied children seeking asylum in the UK and practical guidance for those supporting them.
Aims and Outcomes:
- Gain information and awareness of national agencies and resources to inform and support professionals while working and supporting young people.
- Have a platform to share best practices and learn from others’ experiences.
- Receive advice and access support to help young people settle into the community.
- Understand the terminology around migration.
- Acquire a general knowledge on processes (such as NTS, NRM, age assessments) and asylum policies young people may experience in the UK.
- Understand the reasons young people flee, and the journey, life and social experiences that have an impact on young people’s engagement and mental health.
Learn about emotional challenges faced by young people and how to support them in a trauma-informed way.
