Aims
This locality study was part of the research undertaken by Middlesex University on behalf of Refugee Support on 'New Migrants in England and their Needs'.
Key issues
The report provides a brief history of migration and recent population changes in the cities. Basic statistics are provided from the 2001 census and national insurance registrations on non-UK born residents, asylum support statistics and National Statistics on industries of employment. The labour market, local activities and development that has responded to migrant populations are summarised. The report also identifies needs, gaps and priorities relating to housing and advice, English language courses, and employment and advice.
