Privacy notice - volunteer translators

The reasons we use your data

We will process the information you provide for the following purposes:

  • to get in touch with you about your application
  • to keep in touch with you and support you when you volunteer with us

Why we are allowed to use your data

  • We will process your personal data using the legal basis of the performance of a contract. The contractual arrangement is for the handling of your personal data in accordance with UK data protection legislation.
  • If, for any reason, after you apply, you decide not to volunteer, or we cannot offer you a place, we will destroy your data after 12 months.

Who we can share your data with

If, when you volunteer with us, you qualify for mobile data credit, for audit purposes we will be required to share your name and mobile phone number with:

  • Leeds City Council, because we are based in Leeds City Council, and
  • Our funder, because you’ll be volunteering as part of our ‘Refugee Integration Yorkshire and Humber’ project, and this is co-funded by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund [‘AMIF’, for short]. So we would share your name and mobile phone number with the United Kingdom Responsible Authority [UKRA] - the organisation that manages AMIF funding in the UK - and with UKRA’s independent evaluator, to help them to monitor, audit and evaluate how AMIF funding is being spent. UKRA will not share your personal data with any part of the Home Office.

We will not, otherwise, share your personal information with any third parties without your further agreement or unless required by law.

Who is the data controller for the personal data we collect from you?

Migration Yorkshire is based in Leeds City Council, and the council is the data controller for the information that will be in your volunteer record. Details of your rights under UK data protection legislation, including details of the council’s Data Protection Officer, your rights as a data subject, and your right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office are available here:

UKRA are a data controller for some of the personal data we collect from you if we give you mobile data credit. For more information about how and why UKRA uses your personal data, or to contact UKRA, see the AMIF privacy notice
