Outline

Advocacy Support aims to enable black and minority ethnic [BME] communities to fully access services and to achieve their full rights and entitlements. It aims to provide a high quality, culturally sensitive, independent, bilingual advocacy service, in a wide range of languages [see list of languages at the bottom of the page]. The project supports socially excluded and newly arrived BME communities, including refugees and asylum seekers, and Roma and other European migrants [including people from A10 and A2 countries].

Advocacy Support provides information and practical assistance to aid clients in accessing services, working to ensure that:

• clients fully understand their rights and options and are fully heard, and
• services are appropriate and understanding of client needs

It makes direct interventions to help to resolve problems, gain entitlements or negotiate service. Advocacy is provided in relation to:

• social care
• health services
• welfare benefits and tax credits
• housing
• debt and financial management

The advocacy service is free to all clients. The project is currently unable to provide immigration advice, but can help clients to access other services.

Advocacy Support is a hate incident reporting centre.

Main office drop in times: please call in or phone to book a session early on the day, as we fill up very quickly:

Surgeries: please arrive early, as sessions fill up very quickly:

• Tuesday: Roma drop-in 3.30-5.00pm at Harehills primary school, Darfield Road Leeds LS8 5DQ.
• Thursday: Roma drop-in 9.00-11.30am at Hovingham primary school, ‘the Hub’ portacabin, Leeds LS8 3QY.

Services are currently available in the following languages in addition to English: Amharic, Arabic, Cantonese, Czech, Farsi, Kurdish, Mandarin, Mirpuri, Polish, Punjabi, Roma, Slovak, Tigrinya, and Urdu. Languages spoken may change over time.
