Come and join us! VCS engagement workshops in July

We're excited to be able to offer a series of VCS Engagement workshops!

These sessions will be hosted by Migration Yorkshire, with a number of guest speakers, and are designed so that the voluntary and community sector can share issues and solutions in a safe space. Please note that we will not be able to discuss individual cases in these sessions.

Places are limited, so please do sign up quickly and come prepared to join us for a conversation on the following topics.

Asylum and asylum support – what’s the current situation? What’s working, what’s not, and what are the key issues?

Monday 5 July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm

There’s been a lot of change in the last 12 months. We’ll spend a bit of time looking at the current situation, and discussing what’s working and what’s not. We will think through what’s coming up in the next few months, what you can do, how Migration Yorkshire might be able to help, and how we can work together.

Addressing health inequalities in migrant health

Cathie Railton from Public Health England joins us to talk about health inequalities for vulnerable migrants and the role of the Y&H Migrant Health Board. This is a great chance to share your thoughts about what’s going on across the region, what’s missing, and how the Migrant Health Board can influence the agenda.

EU Settlement Scheme [EUSS] – what’s next?

Thursday 8 July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Legal advice and mapping

Friday 9 July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Dr Jo Wilding is researching need for, and provision of, immigration legal advice throughout the UK. In this workshop she will share some findings from the research so far about legal need and provision in Yorkshire and the Humber, and how that looks compared with the rest of the country, and ask for your input! Who needs advice, on what, and where are they? Who is not getting access to advice? What problems do you encounter with offering advice, or with referring and signposting your clients? To finish, we will think about possible strategies that might help address advice shortages in the short and long term [spoiler alert: we haven't got any easy answers to that].

Research and statistics

Monday 12 July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm

There’s a huge amount of research and stats out there. We’ll look at what is available, sources, what’s coming up, and how it might be useful for you in planning services and writing funding bids. We’d also love to know what you need!
