Refugee of the Year award and finalists 2009
‘Refugee of the Year’ is an annual award which began in 2009, coordinated by Migration Yorkshire. The award recognises the contribution of refugees to the Yorkshire and Humber region, focusing on the extraordinary individuals who embody this in their daily lives.

The awards
The Refugee of the Year received a prize and holds the title of ‘Refugee of the Year 2009, Yorkshire and Humber’. The award was announced and presented at the conference to launch the Regional Refugee Integration Strategy on 12 June 2009. The award marked the beginning of Refugee Week 2009 for the Yorkshire and Humber region.
The finalists
