Asylum Impacts Group [AIG]
What we are and what we do
The Asylum Impacts Group [AIG] is a subgroup of the Yorkshire & Humber Strategic Migration Group [SMG]. We have the following responsibilities to the SMG:
- Management of cluster populations
- Identification and resolution of impacts of dispersal
- Feedback on legal issues
- Dealing with asylum policy issues
- Link with UK Border Agency enforcement teams for removals
Current work
- We're working on the implementation of the Yorkshire and Humber cluster policy, which has been agreed through the SMG.
- We're monitoring the impact of dispersal across the region [to include Case Resolution].
Who can join the subgroup?
The UK Border Agency [UKBA] chairs the group, and the main members of the group are local authorities, police, housing providers, the Refugee Council, the Legal Services Commission, and Government Office. Due to the size of the meeting, we restrict membership to those who have direct involvement in monitoring tension and cohesion, placement of asylum seekers within communities and service provision across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Meetings
We meet quarterly in Doncaster.
