Migrant
A person who leaves their country of origin to live in another country. The term 'long-term' migrant is sometimes used to to distinguish between someone who moves for at least a year and someone who is visiting for a short time before returning home.
 
Migrant worker
A migrant who has left their country of origin and is working in another country. Migrant workers can be from either the EU or outside the EU.
 
Migration
The movement of people between different countries. In the UK this is often used in the context of migrants coming to live in the UK [immigrants].
 
Migration Impacts Fund [MIF]
A UK government fund [April 2009 - September 2010] raised from migrant taxes to help public services respond to migration through specific funding streams for local services.
